If there were one sport that distinguishes La Manga Cub as one of the best sports Resorts in Europe, it would have to be golf. In recognition of its 45 years of existence and thanks to the quality of its facilitates and its wide range of services, the Resort’s golf club was granted in 2017 the title of ‘Real Golf La Manga Club’ by the Royal Household of Spain.

The Resort is home to three 18 hole championship Golf Courses; The North Course, The South Course and The West Course, each with its own unique style and terrain.

The North Course is a Parkland Course defined by palm trees and lakes. It has wide fairways and as the easiest of the 3 Courses, is ideal for high to mid handicappers. It is a bit of a cross between the style of the West Course and the style of the South Course. It is a very enjoyable ‘Holiday’ golf course offering some lovely views and the chance for some birdies.

The South Course has water hazards on 15 on its 18 holes, wide fairways and a good combination of short and long holes. The front nine are particularly challenging with two Par 3’s in excess of 200 meters and some daunting Par 4’s, which call for accurate driving between lakes and bunkers. The back nine, although shorter, has a number of intriguing dog legs.

The West Course with its frequent changes in elevation, offers a different set of challenges. The front nine demand accurate driving to avoid the ‘barrancos’ (natural storm gullies), while the back nine, up amongst the hills, are more open but nonetheless challenging. The final hole is worth the wait, the fairway is set a hundred metres or so below the tee, an exhilarating closing shot.

The North course opened in 1971 and was designed by Robert Dean Putman.

The South course opened in 1971 and was designed by Robert Dean Putman and later remodelled by Arnold Palmer in 1996.

The West course opened in 1991 and was designed by Dave Thomas.
