Islantilla Golf

Located in Isla Cristina, very close to the Spain/Portugal border145km from Sevilla airport and 90km from Faro airport.

Islantilla Golf comprises of 27 holes (3 x 9 hole courses). The blue Course is designed for low handicap players. The green Course combines length and accuracy and is ideal for middle handicappers. The yellow Course is the easiest and is ideal for high handicap players.

The Islantilla Golf Course has a good layout, the careful design, the gentle slopes, water, scenery, sea views, weather conditions and the Pencross Greens and Agrostis Fairways make for an enjoyable round of golf.

The Green nine can best be described as gently hilly, the other two a little more so (not mountain goat territory, but worthy of a buggy). The greens and fairways are good throughout and the rough generally consists of pine cones, needles and leaves from the firs, palms, eucalyptus and myriad of other trees that line most of the holes and separate them from the adjoining properties.

There are a number of holes on each nine where the trees disappear, emphasising the proximity of the holiday homes, the tenants of which must each collect a fine supply of golf balls!

The opening holes of the Blue nine are very pretty, the first requiring only an iron in order to come up short of the water (beyond which is a lovely view out to sea), but long enough to make the dog leg and see the green. Two is a great 175 yard par three all over water to a huge green. Three looks lovely from the elevated tee down into a valley, but the slope can easily take your ball into a clump of palms, from where it’s very tough to play up to the elevated green – which also has a very sneaky bunker behind it. But it’s a doddle compared to the fourth: long and narrow, with a big dip half way and a small green not only tucked into the trees in the left corner, but also protected by one bang in front and a bunker to the right. On top of that there are unseen bunkers behind. Six is no pushover either, with a downhill second shot over water to a tiny green with gardens right behind.

The Islantilla Golf Course opened in 1992 and was designed by Enrique Canales and Luis Recasens.
